The Hungaroring became the first Formula One Grand Prix behind the Iron Curtain in 1986. Hungaroring is located in Mogyoród, a municipality near Budapest. It was built in only 8 months, less than any other formula one circuits.

The construction started on October 1, 1985 and the first race was already held on March 24, 1986. Hungaroring has FIA Grade 1 licence.

Thanks to the extremely popular Formula One Grand Prix, Mogyoród became the third most popular destination in Hungary, according to the survey of the Hungarian Tourist Office, Hungarian Tourism Ltd.
